Emily Post's Etiquette 18th Edition-Event at Michael C. Fina

Teaching Wedding Planning, Event Coordination and Design, I have always promoted the lifeline of Emily Post Etiquette books. After seven years the 18th edition has launched and last evening I attended the event at Michael C. Fina to meet the fabulous Peggy Post. Along with Anna Post, Lizzie Post and Daniel Post Senning, Peggy Post created Manners for a New World. She spoke about Etiquette, the new book and table setting 101 last evening. My student Debbie Lucy and I were thrilled to attend and receive signed copies of the 18th edition, plus talk with the savant about her new book and how etiquette has evolved over the past seven years. Post mentioned "There is actually a section about social media, did you know there is Facebook etiquette"? I am not surprised!
I was also happy to meet Iva Radunovic, visual merchandiser and designer of most tabletop settings showcased in the 545 Fifth Avenue Michael C. Fina store. We chatted about inspiration and tablescaping (a Marissa Mortimer favorite topic) as well as Marissa the planner vs designer. Lavish Occasions loves Preston Bailey!

What a great day! Teaching Wedding Planning and Event Coordination has been not only an honor but a pleasure. For just under four years I have been teaching these courses at Wagner College and have reinforced my own knowledge, networked with fine students, empowered young women (and men) to go after their dream and have seen them aim for greatness and succeed! It has truly been a gratifying experience! So much has been an opportunity in my own journey and today was another wonderful 'event' in my ever-evolving career. When The Wedding Planning Institute launched their partnership with the fabulous Preston Bailey, I was thrilled. When I navigated through his course, I sat inspired by every word, image and idea. I literally pictured how I would discuss each aspect of his business in my classroom. I had a small glimmer of hope that I would be able to bring my students to his office and though he is such a busy and celebrated person, my dream came true today and with a down-to-earth, informative and patient event designer. His staff prepared a beautiful statement piece for us that was imaged as a huge design board with florals stating "Welcome Wagner College". He sat down with us in his personal office and asked my students, my photographer Natalie Licini, and myself questions about ourselves and he talked about the beginning of his career, gave raw and honest advice and all at the same time with a gentle smile. His answers were clear and concise with such honesty and care. In a world where today so much "wedding fluff' can be found, it was so refreshing to have open and honest dialog with a superstar. To call him a savant, underestimates the word and to call him warm will not do justice. So we love Preston Bailey, can ya tell? Stay tuned for images taken from our visit and looking forward to much more blogging!
Happy Planning!

Wedding Planning course Spring 2010 and Agenda Expo

This year I have been given a great group of ladies as students of my Wedding Planning course are Wagner College... Students who are smart, sassy and just very talented. Dynamic is always fantastic but I have a really good feeling about them raising the bar in our field. Most difficult question to answer is how many can I use to assist on my Events?? I suppose that's a good issue : )
Agenda Expo was held this Tuesday March 16th at the Sheraton New York. beautiful weather to travel in but to my dismay there were only about 50% of the usual vendors. Positive note- high quality vendors, good time spent with each one and a lovely networking lunch with the Event Planner at Chelsea Piers.. overall a good show.
